As a content creator, artist, teacher and avid social media user I’m lucky that I’m able to share so much of my work with other people around the world, each day I’m able to post what I’ve created and interact with other artists and people through various platforms. What I appreciate though, almost even more than sharing my own work, is seeing the work of other talented people from all over the world. I really believe in the power of community and always try to share work that I appreciate so that other people can enjoy the hard work and vision of talented artists.

Each year I make a post where I share 5 artists that I really admire and who’s work really stood out for me in the last year. I hope you go and follow them all and enjoy their unique view of the world!

1. Paperboyo -Rich McCor

I’ve long been a fan of Rich’s creative and clever paper cutouts that are wildly popular on Instagram. He sees the world in such an interesting way, blending existing structures and landscapes with his own sense of humour and art. Seeing how he interprets a space and then uses it with his cutouts is inspiring to me and it’s helped me to open my eyes a bit more to how I can see the existing world around me. We’d both been following each other for a few years and earlier this year we finally got a chance to hang out at Adobe Max and pick each other’s brains a bit, here’s hoping we can collaborate one day soon! Rich also published an amazing book with his photography and cutouts which you can pick up here

2. Tara Herron

A few weeks ago I started to get some really supportive and kind comments pop up on Instagram. I try my best to reply to all the comments people leave on my images and I try to go and check out the accounts of people who leave such kind words. When I looked at Tara’s photostream I was instantly blown away. I don’t know what was the most impressive, her use of colours, the way she captures absolutely magical light or her whimsical eye that she shares through her images of her family. Her images look like a blink of an eye capturing the most magical of moments and I spent quite a long time scrolling through and being truly inspired by her style and vision.

3. Thomas Miles

I met Thomas a couple of years ago while I was living in the UK, we’d met up with a few other photographers in London around Christmastime to do some exploring and photographing. Thomas’s work over the last year has really grown and his skills in creating strong imagery plays well with his ability to tell captivating stories with the photos he creates. I know how much work he puts into his images and it certainly pays off in the beautiful work that he has created this year.

4. Lauren Hom

Lauren was another one of the artists who’s work I’d been admiring for a while and was lucky enough to meet at Adobe Max this year. Actually we made a joke about how often we’d literally run into each other around every corner, it seemed like every time we’d look over we’d be in the same place at the  same time. When I first came across her work last year my first thought was “damn she’s cool” and then “damn she’s talented!”. Lauren is an incredibly talented letterer who creates work that is both beautiful and infused with her great sense of humour.  Her posts blend motivational quotes and inspiring messages with wicked puns and jokes. When I’m rich and famous I want her to paint my walls with her beautiful letters.

5. Jonathan Chape

I came across Jonathan’s work earlier this summer when he sent a message on Instagram when I was visiting New York. We arranged a little photography meetup and in the meantime I was blown away by his incredibly powerful photography. Jonathan’s work is deeply emotive and is very clearly a visualization of is emotions and experiences in life. I’ve gotten to know Jonathan as a friend over the last few months and while I admire his strong photography, knowing how much he puts into his work and how he uses it to share his voice just makes me an even bigger supporter of his creative mind.  He puts 100% of himself into his photos and that is something that I really admire and appreciate in his art.
